Caring for Every City, Every Citizen

The National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) is a dedicated program under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aimed at strengthening the health care system for the urban poor and vulnerable sections of society.

Our Municipality is proud to implement NUHM with the goal of providing accessible, affordable, and quality health services to all urban residents—especially slum dwellers, migrant workers, street vendors, and those without regular access to healthcare.

👩‍⚕️ Key Objectives of NUHM

1. Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs)

  • Free outpatient consultations, diagnosis, and treatment for general illnesses.
  • Maternal and child health services including antenatal care, immunizations, and nutrition advice.
  • Family planning support and counseling.
  • Availability of essential medicines and diagnostic services.

2. Mobile Medical Units (MMUs)

  • Delivering healthcare to remote urban pockets through mobile units.
  • Providing doctor consultations, basic diagnostic tests, and medicine distribution in underserved areas.

3. Community Outreach

  • Services brought closer to people through ASHAs and Urban Health & Nutrition Day (UHND) sessions.
  • Health awareness campaigns on hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Special camps for screening non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

4. Focus on Women & Child Health

  • Free pregnancy check-ups and support for institutional deliveries.
  • Immunization programs for infants and children.
  • Anemia control and health education for adolescents.

  • State-level Nodal Agencies
  • Ensure equitable access to primary health care in urban areas.
  • Improve the health status of the urban poor and vulnerable groups.
  • Establish a robust system of Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs).
